About Us

Our Story

At Nebraska Rise Volleyball, we take a unique approach to developing athletes and teams. We don’t just coach—we cultivate connection, character, and confidence. Our club was created from a powerful connection, forged through years of competition, teamwork, and a mutual passion for the sport we love.

Over a decade ago, we—Theison Anderson and Jenny Brown—began playing volleyball together (and sometimes against each other), building a bond that would later evolve into a trusted coaching partnership. From running tournaments to leading camps and guiding athletes of all ages, our passion for this sport has always been about more than wins—it’s about growth, purpose, and the people we serve.

We’ve spent years developing athletes, mentoring coaches, and creating opportunities that empower players not only to compete at a high level, but to rise as leaders—on and off the court. Our combined experience allows us to offer a truly unique club experience, blending high-level volleyball instruction with a deep commitment to leadership, mindset, and team culture.

About Us

Director: Theison Anderson

Theison brings a wealth of coaching knowledge from the collegiate, high school, and club levels. His work with the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s 2019 National Runner-Up team, along with his head coaching roles at Morningside College and at the high school levels, speak to his technical expertise and dedication to player development. He currently leads our club program with over 100 athletes and 15 teams, specializing in skill development, strategic training, and player confidence.

Director: Jenny Brown

Jenny brings the heart of transformational coaching into the volleyball world. As a former college athlete and coach, she offers a unique lens on building team chemistry, strengthening leadership, and fostering a culture where athletes feel seen, valued, and supported. Her ability to mentor players and coaches alike is rooted in compassion, connection, and clarity.

Together, we lead Nebraska Rise Volleyball with love, integrity, and a high standard of excellence. We’re not just training athletes—we’re empowering individuals to recognize their strengths, lead with confidence, and rise together.

Welcome to Nebraska Rise Volleyball. We’re glad you’re here.

About Us

More about Nebraska Rise Volleyball

We welcome players from Kearney and area schools to tryout for positions on our teams. We will do our best to put the most competitive group of players on each team. We  have 8-10 players on a team and hope to have two teams at each level. Our coaches are excellent. In addition to playing club in the off-season, we also encourage athletes to be members of their high school winter and spring sports teams.

We expect support from our parents and with this comes an understanding that our practices are closed to all fans and parents. Only our coaching staff and players are allowed at practices.  We ask that parents entrust their kids to our coaches and our club program. The tournaments are coming, and that’s when parents and fans can see our athletes. If parents come from out of town and don’t have some shopping to do, they can come in and sit in the commons area.

FREQUENTLY ASKED Q & A

Q: When are practices?

A: Right now, practices will be Sunday and Wednesday evenings. Practices will typically last for an hour and half. These are subject to change as gym space availability changes.

Q: When/ Where are tournaments?

A: These can vary greatly. Each coach selects the 6 tournaments they wish to attend based on availability. Younger teams will typically stick to more local tournaments (Kearney, Grand Island, Hastings). Older more competitive teams will have a combination of local and high level tournaments in areas like Lincoln and Omaha.

Q: What is the cost? (subject to change)

A: $___ for Age Divisions 10-13

$___ for Age Divisions 14-18

*the older divisions have a higher cost because many of their tournaments typically have higher registration fees.

*Every team will compete at 6 tournaments! 2-3 of which are hosted in different locations by Nebraska Rise Volleyball!

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: No refunds will be given after the first practice.

The only exception being if there is an injury. If the injury occurs before February 15th, and the athlete can not participate in the rest of the season, a 50% refund will be given.

Q: What is your top team?

A: Our teams go in order from Blue, Black, White.

Blue being the top team.

Parent Expectations and Guidelines

As parents, you play a crucial role in your child’s athletic development and the overall success of the club volleyball program. To foster a positive and supportive environment, we ask all parents to adhere to the following expectations:

1. Support Your Athlete

  • Encourage effort and attitude: Celebrate hard work, improvement, and sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome.
  • Avoid over-coaching: Trust the coaches to teach and guide your child in volleyball skills and strategy.
  • Promote resilience: Help your child learn from challenges and losses as part of their growth.

2. Respect the Coaches and Staff

  • Trust the process: Coaches make decisions based on the best interest of the team and individual player development.
  • Communicate appropriately: Use designated times and methods to address concerns (e.g., email, scheduled meetings), not during or immediately after matches or practices. Please seek to UNDERSTAND, before you accuse or send heated messages.
  • Model good behavior: Show respect for all club staff by avoiding negative comments or gossip.

3. Exhibit Good Sportsmanship

  • Cheer respectfully: Be positive and encouraging, not critical of players, coaches, or officials.
  • Respect referees: Avoid arguing calls or displaying frustration during games.
  • Support all players: Recognize and cheer for the successes of the entire team, not just your child.

4. Honor the Club’s Policies

  • Punctuality: Ensure your child arrives on time for practices, tournaments, and team events.
  • Financial commitment: Stay current with payments and communicate promptly if issues arise.

5. Promote a Healthy Balance

  • Encourage rest: Ensure your child has adequate time to recover and balance other aspects of their life, including school and family.
  • Focus on enjoyment: Help your child stay passionate about volleyball without excessive pressure or expectations.

6. Represent the Club with Pride

  • Be a role model: Behave in a way that reflects positively on the club during tournaments, events, and online.
  • Build community: Foster positive relationships with other parents, athletes, and staff to create a supportive environment.

Consequences for Failing to Meet Expectations

Parents who do not follow these guidelines may face consequences such as:

  • A conversation with the club director or coaching staff.
